The Boards

In a talent-packed final, the skateboard street competition brought together some of the world's top riders. In a very technical run, Danny Gonzales of San Francisco launched off the center box and into first place. Gonzales' performance was enough to outdo X Games multiple medalist Andy Macdonald of San Diego and Brian Patch of Huntington Beach, Calif. By winning, Gonzales earned an invite to the X Games in his hometown this summer.

In the vert final, five of the top 10 skaters were drawn from around the world. Despite the talented international field, Andy Macdonald of San Diego was able to overcome second-place finisher Tas Pappas of Melbourne, Australia, to win the gold. During Macdonald's final run, the 1998 X Trials and X Games silver medalist pulled off 11 consecutive 540s (1 rotations) to stun the crowd. Mathias Ringstrom of Stockholm, Sweden, performed a number of difficult lip tricks and board flips to land in third.

Pappas also earned an invitation to the 1999 X Games.
