The Bikes

In the bike stunt vert final of 1998, Canadian Jay Miron rode to the gold as Dennis McCoy of Kansas City, Mo., and Simon Tabron of Liverpool, England, finished second and third, respectively. McCoy, who at 32 was the oldest competitor at the X Trials, was congratulated by Mayor David Armstrong after riding to silver. Invitees to the 1999 X Games include Rob Nolli of Orlando, Fla., and Kevin Gutierrez of San Antonio, Texas.

In a spectacular flatland final, Trevor Meyer of Wayzata, Minn., performed three perfect runs in which he pulled two incredibly difficult tricks that until now had not been seen in competition.

Jason Brown of Port Coquitlam, B.C., and Effraim Catlow of Southsea, England, rode to second and third, respectively. While both riders put together very technical runs, neither was able to topple an unstoppable Meyer.

Invitees to the X Games this summer include Effraim Catlow; Art Thomason of Ponca City, Okla.; and Scott Powell of North Olmstead, Ohio.

In a phenomenal street final, five contenders raised the bar to make judging the worlds' best a difficult task. While top professionals Dave Mirra of Greenville, N.C., and Jay Miron of Thunder Bay, Ontario, faltered in the final, the door was left open for Rob Nolli of Orlando, Fla.; Ryan Nyquist of Los Gatos, Calif.; and Dennis McCoy of Kansas City, Mo. The three finished first, second and third, respectively, after first and second place were determined by a tie-breaker.

Nolli's combination of transfers and back flips pushed him into first. Invitees to the X Games this summer include Mike Laird of Virginia Beach, Va.; Colin MacKay of Vancouver, B.C.; and Joe Kowalski of Bethlehem, Pa.
